#BGGD48 Quick post about Delta Lloyd Life, @AnnMetPensioen @PensionDeClaire and two iPhones
Tonight’s 48th edition of Brussels Girl Geek Dinners is made possible by Delta Lloyd Life.
As a pension insurer Delta Lloyd Life takes its social responsibility by participating in the debate with the various Belgian pension players. The pension debate shouldn’t just only be conducted in De Wetstraat. An annual pension survey, the Independent Chair of Pension Policy at the K.U. Leuven, the Pension Ambassador Award and the current campaign “Vrouwen Met Pensioen” are just some of its initiatives that seek to put the pension dialogue on the agenda. Take a look at
www.vrouwenmetpensioen.be / www.lapensiondesfemmes.be..
Two female bloggers, Ann Detelder (@AnnMetPensioen) and Claire Cervollo (@PensionDeClaire), were asked to document their month on the minimum pension fee. How did they cope?
And most importantly: which one of the girl geeks win the two iPhones tonight?

7 October is Ada Lovelace Day (and the deadline for the Ubuntu Women Competition)
Do you make things? The Ubuntu Women team is running a competition to find outstanding projects made by women and connected in some way to Ubuntu. Write about what you have done (with pictures) and email your entry to competition@ubuntu-women.org and they will publish it on the Ubuntu Women team blog. They will take a fairly broad interpretation of “making things” they could be physical things or more abstract, and they’ll accept fairly tenuous links to Ubuntu. The deadline for submissions is Ada Lovelace day, 7th October. Some examples of what you might make would include
- Neat new applications running on Ubuntu
- Cookies, Cakes or Cocktails with an Ubuntu theme
- Robots programmed or designed on Ubuntu
- Arduino powered circuits designed and programmed on Ubuntu
- Something musical or artistic with Ubuntu tools
- Something utterly different to surprise and delight us
#BGGD46 Pink Ribbon photo shoot
To support breast cancer awareness (and the 5th edition of Pink Ribbon Magazine) a few dozen of my Sanoma Media colleagues have volunteered to pose nude with the magazine. Among them virtually every magazine editor and a couple of men, too.
I’ve used mine as a profile picture on Facebook and Twitter to spread the message.
During #BGGD46, girl geeks can line up for the same photo shoot (if they want too, of course). It’s an all-female professional photo crew and they’re very pleasant to work with. By the way, do you recognise the girl geek in this gallery?

#BGGD45 Sony Tablet Haiku contest: and the winner is… @LoreDierickx
During #BGGD45 the battle for the Sony Tablets was fierce. Eventually we had 4 winners.

From left to right: @applefanbe @gudrun @sanaered @nathalieb84.
But there was yet another tablet to win, with a haiku contest. This is the winning tweet, by @LoreDierickx.
Lore, if you read this: email/DM your post address to Clo so Sony can take care of the handling and delivery of your Tablet./
Very curious what their experiences with the Sony Tablet are. If you find any girl geek reviews, please post them in the comments.
#BGGD45 Surprise for the ladies: 3D printed jewelry thx @imaterialise
i.materialise is a creation and 3Dprinting service that enables people with a creative mind to create unique, customised and beautiful products. The girl geeks visited them in their early days, back in november 2009. Many of the girl geeks envisioned using the technology to create unique jewelry pieces.
Well, the 3D printed jewels have arrived. More and more designers worldwide are using 3Dprinting to create wonderful pieces of art. We would like to present a couple of those on the next Girl Geeks night. We look forward to your feedback. Enjoy girls!
Tonight, at the reception desk, there are 25 freshly printed 3D jewels – just for the ladies. Please pick one as you arrive and let us all know on Twitter, Facebook, your blog etc what you think of it!
#BGGD45 on 14 Sep: get ready for a Geek Battle!
During the IFA fair (the world’s largest and most important trade fair for consumer electronics and household appliances) Sony threw their answer on the tablet pile: the Sony Tablet. And they want to have your thoughts on the newborn during Brussels Girl Geek Dinner #45. No boring you to death with 500 slides, but an entertaining evening. Well, let’s be honest, it’s the Sony people who will be entertained by you!
You’ll be fighting a geek battle: you and your buddy will fight a number of cross-category challenges against the other teams. Pop quiz, videogaming, the occasional app to download and use, uploading a picture…
Two top geeks will win a Sony Tablet at the end of the evening. And there’s an additional challenge for the more
creative geek who’s not in a combative mood. A part from the prizes, who has never wanted to beat another geek at their own game?
Studio Brussel’s Steven Lemmens (@stvn) will act as MC, jury and shoulder to cry on if you’re not happy with the results of the evening.
Course of the evening
- 18.30 welcome and explanation of the rules of the game
- 19.00 walking buffet – find your buddy – check out the list of challenges
- 19.45 battle!
- +/- 22.00 finals and award presentation
Venue
The Event Lounge
Gen. Wahislaan 16F Av. Gén. Wahis
