BGGD #17 is fully booked. But no worries: next week is BGGD #18, an XL edition
You know from our Upcoming BGGD overview that on Wednesday 7 October is the 18th edition of Brussels Girl Geek Dinner. Topic is Movies. Or rather: Eighties Ladies at the Movies. And there’s good news: there will be room (and goodie bags) for no less than 100 girl geeks. Thank you kinepolis.com/ladies!
Have you already guessed what movie we’ll see? Here’s a hint.
Announcing BGGD #17 Yoga for Geeks
I don’t know about you, but of all the Wii Fit sports I like Yoga best. Of course, that’s not the real thing. Which is why Brussels Girl Geek Dinner is organising a Hatha Yoga session on Saturday 3 October 14:00-16:00 in Brussels.
Hatha Yoga is what most people in the West associate with the word “Yoga” and is practised for mental and physical health throughout the West. Hatha yoga consists of various movements, breath control exercises, and physical postures that can produce a profound state of inner union, vitality, and harmony.
(In case you’re wondering what to wear: just don’t pick anything that could restrict bodily movements. The obvious items including jeans, or shirts. Try loose-fitting, sweat absorbent and comfortable clothes, like yoga shorts, sweat clothes, leotards or yoga pants.)
Sponsor is Vitaminwater, so please give them lots of linklove: http://glaceauvitaminwater.be/
Want to join us? Then put your name on the wiki. Seats are limited to 40 ladies this time, so don’t wait too long!

BGGD #16 speaker: Imke Dielen
Journalist Brecht Decaestecker describes her as Something like a phenomenon. Imke Dielen is really Helena Van Eykeren, an ambitious 25 year old who started blogging 2,5 years ago. The book “Imke Dielen” describes how the character she created thinks and feels about sex, men, cars, and toilet paper.
Imke Dielen has been published by Ludion Publishers in Dutch and is available in bookstores in the course of this month.
The first 100 people who order a copy through e-mail and mention the voucher code “1609″ get free shipping.
And as mentioned yesterday night during Brussels Girl Geek Dinner, the first 4 bloggers who refer to this post get a free, signed copy.
BGGD #16 goodie bag sponsor: Glacéau Vitaminwater
Officially only launched on 24 September, but the Girls always get the goodies first: Glacéau Vitaminwaters. Vitaminwater was designed to “fill the gap” between soft drinks and water for people who knew they should drink more water but weren’t. With fewer calories than soda, the drink both hydrates consumers and provides nutrients they are likely to be missing.
For a full range of the six flavours available in Belgium from next week on: http://glaceauvitaminwater.be

BGGD #16 free tickets for F.A.C.T.S. 2009
F.A.C.T.S. is the biggest science fiction, fantasy, comics & anime convention in
the Benelux. Launched in 1993 (in a small room above a pub) it has grown into a full blown
convention with some 10.000+ visitors at the previous edition.
FACTS 2009, to be held on October 17th/18th 2009 in Flanders Expo (Ghent, Belgium) will feature more than 100 dealers from
Europe and the USA; some 30+ guests (a/o Kevin – Hercules – Sorbo, Lou – the Hulk – Ferrigno, Leah – Racetrack – Cairns, etc.); a fan village with life size props; a game zone with 60+ consoles and some DDR setups; a cos’ play competition; large screen projections; a chill out zone; and much much more!
Want to go? Every attendee of this Brussels Girl Geek Dinner gets free entrance at this year’s edition.

BGGD #16 Goodie bag: Lotus Crunchy
After last year’s highly successful launch of Lotus caramelized biscuit spread, Belgian food company Lotus is innovating again, this time by bringing caramelized biscuit *crunchy* spread.
Lotus Crunchy Speculoos Pasta is unique, containing both crunchy pieces of authentic Lotus caramelized biscuit and smooth Lotus caramelized biscuit spread.
They’ve only just hit the stores, but you know what it was like last year: these Speculoos Pastas are very popular. Which is why Lotus is handing out one jar of Lotus Crunchy to every attendee. (Yes, that includes the male geeeks this time).
BGGD #16 Proxis online store
I’ve always wanted to do a “book edition” of Brussels Girl Geek Dinner, and with the help of SAPlounge, Imke Dielen en Proxis it’s finally possible. Proxis is, of course, one of the Belgian e-commerce classics. They’ve been selling on-line since 1997 (!). For BGGD #16, they are putting some interesting stuff to read in the goodie bags.
Proxis has been a true value in the online shopping landscape for more than 12
years. In our webstore you can find more than 4 million products including books in
Dutch, English and French, along with an extensive offer of CDs, DVDs, games and
software.
Proxis’ many years of experience guarantee the best service, worldwide
delivery and, last but not least, a broad array of secure payment options.

From the Luon blog:
Yesterday, Solo treated our girl geek jury and 5 of their friends to an exclusive cooking workshop with Jeroen De Pauw. The location was wonderful, the dishes looked delish and the company was to die for. For the occasion, chef de cuisine Jeroen De Pauw prepared a special girl geek menu consisting of 3 super tasty yet healthy dishes. You can easily try out the recipes for yourself. Just follow the instructions at www.solo.be/nl/girlgeekdinner (in Dutch).
For all the girl geeks who couldn’t make it to the workshop Solo also has a special surprise. To celebrate the launch of Solo Light we are going to give away richly filled gift baskets to 10 girl geeks who register to the site via www.solo.be/nl/girlgeekdinner
The site will be updated with a French girl geek page shortly.
BGGD #16 Registrations are open
Just a quick note to announce that registrations for Brussels Girl Geek Dinner #16 (on Wednesday 16 September in the wonderful SAP Lounge, Dewezplein 5 , Vilvoorde) are open.
The topic is “Books”. Not only because Proxis and FACTS are sponsoring the goodie bags, but most of all because one of us got a book deal: Imke Dielen . She will be the speaker for this edition.
For those who’ve just tuned in: Brussels Girl Geek Dinners are free (including entrance, food, drinks, and even a goodie bag) but seats are limited. This is why only people whose name is on the Wiki page are allowed in.
Usually the events are female only but this time it’s open to both girl and male geeks, bloggers, Flickrs, tweeple, you name it.
Who puts your name on the Wiki page? You do. Create a pbwiki account, log in, click “edit page” and add your name to the “Attendee list”.
Geek = intelligence + obsession – social ineptitude
I often get the question from journalists, but this brilliant Venn diagram explains it all. The difference between a nerd and a geek is, that a nerd is socially inept and a geek is not. They share, however, their intelligence and a passion for (in our case) anything IT, internet or computer related.
By the way, a stupid nerd is called a dork. A nerd without passion is just a dweeb.
