Brussels Girl Geek Dinner

About

Girl Geek Dinners are events for females who class themselves as girly and geeky. The events have a technical focus and are light hearted and fun.
This blog was created by Clo Willaerts to set up a Brussels Girl Geek Dinner.
Idea inspired by Sarah Blow of London Girl Geek Dinners. WP Design by Ine Dehandschutter. Adapted Girl Geek Dinners logo by Carolien. Original logo by Cole Henley.

BGGD #12 The Special Edition: let’s go to London! [UPDATE]

Posted in Sponsor love, Girl Geek Dinners by Clo Willaerts on the March 11th, 2009

EurostarWhy London?
London is where Girl Geek Dinners originally started. And London is just around the corner, actually. Which is why Eurostar invites 40 Brussels Girl Geeks for a round trip Brussels-London-Brussels on Saturday 14 March 2009. On the train, we will be joined by a group of French girl bloggers, and in London we’ll have tea with some of the London Girl Geeks.

Who should join?
Anyone who’s female and geeky, lives and breathes Twitter/Facebook/Flickr/blogging, loves shopping, and most importantly: has a smartphone and knows how to use it. The idea is to use a brand new “social mobile application” to liveblog our shopping adventures that day in London (hence the importance of that smartphone).

What’s the programme?

  • 8h30 : welcome at Brussels-Midi (introduction, tickets distribution, data card, vouchers,etc.)
  • 9h29 :  London departure
  • 10h31 : Arrival in London St Pancras International
  • 10h45 : Geek Shopping starts (enhanced by social mobile application)
  • 12h00 : Meet at Apple Store => A lecture by Molly Flatt, a Guardian blogger, and Jess Greenwood - Dep Ed, Contagious Magazine
The theme is likely to be around 10 top trends of the year including things like Location and Context Services, Apps Stores, Going Green, etc.  We will confirm early next week after Jess and Molly have fleshed it out.
  • 12h45 : Shop till you drop again or rather till 3.30
  • 15h30 : Welcome at Berkeley Hotel
  • 15h30 to 18h30 :  Networking with London and French Girls Geek during tea time.
  • 19h00 : check-in @ St Pancras International
  • 19h34 : departure Eurostar for Brussels-Midi
  • 22h33 : arrival in  Brussels-Midi

How do you register?
Add your name to the wiki page to get in. List closes at 40 girl geeks (no guests, please).

[UPDATE:] If your name is on the attendees list but you’re not 100% sure you can make it to Brussels-Midi at 08:30 this Saturday and/or liveblogging is not your thing, please move your name to the off list. This way we can give the Reserves on the list a chance to join us.

If you need complimentary mobile internet SIM cards for the occasion, if no one else can help you, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire “Mobile Vikings” !

Any chance of just having a plain old girl geek dinner in Brussels one of these days? I’d really like to join in the fun, but they don’t seem to take place here in Brussels nowadays…
