BGGD #12 Social Mobile Application will allow tracking the Girl Geeks Shopping London on 14 March
London is just around the corner. So why keep shopping in Euros when you can make great deals shopping in pounds. That’s exactly what 40 Brussels Girl Geeks plan to do on this Saturday, 14 March, during Brussels Girl Geek Dinner #12. We will be joined by a group of French girl geeks and 40 London Girl Geeks.
The girls will be using Twitter (hash tag: #GGSL) and Flickr to share tips all day long using a social mobile application developed by Eurostar just for the day.
How does the social mobile application work?
To make this trip special and not just another shopping trip, Eurostar has set up a mobile phone application based on a map showing our selection of shops and for each shop we will show a small description of the shop and why we recommand it. We want to promote shops that have that little something special that we can’t find on the continent. We spread an economic message so we don’t want luxury shops but attractive shops affordable for any kind of woman.
On the map, Girls will be able to locate all the selected shop, travel from one to another and locate their travel companions at the same time. They won’t travel all together so every girl can enjoy the day at her own pace and thanks to the map they can go and discover some great shopping locations by themselves. The application also contains a functionality that will allow them to keep in touch with each other by posting messages and photos.
Each post will automatically updated their Twitter account so their Twitter contacts will be able to follow their journey. This mobile phone application and the event that goes around it is a real innovation so we need to make sure every girl geek uses the application and for that reason it’s essential that there is a distance between the shops. You don’t need a map if all shops are in the same street. Eurostar will also offer an incentive for the girl who used the most the application during the day (probably a free Eurostar trip to come back in London).
What about data roaming?
And there’s more good news: Mobile Vikings will take care of our mobile internet access during the trip. All 40 of the Brussels Girl Geeks will receive a SIM card that allows them to call, sms and surf in France and the UK free of charge during BGGD12. On top of that Mobile Vikings offers the girls 1 month of free mobile phone + internet usage in Belgium.
As a new mobile operator in Belgium, Mobile Vikings wants to make the mobile internet free of charge. For this they are looking for alternative business models in social networking, m-commerce and advertising. The reason they are sponsoring BGGD is that they think you ladies are the perfect audience to give feedback on their offering.
