NOMADZNU
Nomadz.nu is about two thirty something girl geeks Catherine & Ine realizing their dream: to go and travel for one year meanwhile working remotely. While they freelance their way around the world, they document their social experiment in “Lifestyle Design” through Flickr pictures, Twitter updates and blog posts. While visiting Iraq, she became fascinated by the Middle East and took off to live and study in Israel. During this trip, she started blogging at a time when the word ‘blogging’ barely existed.

Today, she combines her passion (photography) with her ‘geeky’ side (webdesign) in her company Matuvu.

Upon graduation she was offered a job as a researcher in logics at the University of Gent.

Today she owns her own online communication company focusing on small companies within the lifestyle & design field.

LIFESTYLE DESIGN
With his book “The 4-Hour Workweek”, Timothy Ferris introduced the term ‘lifestyle design’ to the world. Lifestyle design is about styling your life in the way you’d like it to be, based on the experiences you’d like to have. To do everything you want to do (experiences) and to be everything you want to be (being) are central concepts in it.
It’s all about the ‘here’ and ‘now’. skiïng in Japan, writing a book, discovering far off countries, or running marathons in all parts of life are experiences our society considers to be only accessible to the extremely rich or the retired. Lifestyle Design adepts are convinced that, by using certain lifehacks, a bit of creativity and ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking, this lifestyle can be accessible to both you and me. So, why not live the life you want to, right now?

Brussels Girl Geek Dinner #27 (on Wed 5 May in Antwerp) is fully booked, but no worries: there’s still room at Brussels Girl Geek Dinner #28 on Sunday afternoon 9 May in Ghent. Put your name on the wiki to be part of this unique art event!

Electrified 02 – Hacking public spaces, the second edition of S.M.A.K. and the Vooruit ‘s biennial art project, takes up a decisive position on the crossroads of several directions in the visual arts. At the same time it will expose the friction between the areas where the two institutions operate: the S.M.A.K. in contemporary art and the Vooruit in media art, sound and performance art. In the quest for a shared ‘mentality’ in these different dynamics, the public space is taken as a common thread. In this case, the term ‘public space’ is all-embracing, without losing sight of the actual distinction between real and virtual public space.

About the artist (from Vooruit.be):

In her work, Roberta Gigante (b. 1986, Arpino, Italy) explores relationships between public space, image and sound. More specifically, she examines the resonance frequencies of various objects and how sound behaves as an ‘image’. As part of Electrified02, Gigante will be going to the harbour in Ghent. It is not so much the setting that interests her as the site, where twelve gigantic metal pipes are being stored. The pipes lie next to one another, like separate organ pipes waiting to be brought together in one instrument. Each pipe – depending on its thickness, diameter and length – has its own resonance frequency, which is recorded and then used as a keynote in a site-specific sound installation. In OrganOOn the artist ‘hacks’ the port site in Ghent with a sound installation that appeals to the imagination and will be activated just once, namely on Sunday 5 of May, 2010. This unusual organ concert also questions the classical organisation and setting in which concerts like this are held.

Michael started coding in BASIC at the age of 9 with his first computer: a disused Amstrad CPC464 received by my aunt. Today he has a degree in applied computer sciences. At this moment, he does all his coding on a MacBook Pro, sometimes in Windows, “because he has to”.

He started making little mobile web pages for fun, for using it on my Mitsubishi m21i iMode-phone. Years after that, the Android SDK came out and I started making mobile applications that use real-time location-based information. I now think I have quite good insight in that operating system and am doing some freelance work on it. I used to be a Nokia fanboy and silently still am. I recently started playing with Qt 4.6 so I can make Nokia apps for Maemo and Symbian as well.”

Inge Rock – the daughter of two teachers – was brought up in the thick of teaching, inspiring and motivating from a very early age. Subsequently, it was perfectly logical that she should end up studying teaching herself. She was a sales manager and trainer for a cosmetics’ company for many years, managed her own perfumery business and, along the way, became increasingly interested in psychology and personal development.

After years of home-studying, she came into contact with Bob Proctor, the American inspiration behind ‘The Secret’ (a method for realising happiness and success). Thanks to him, she managed to transform her skills into ready-made, goal-oriented European programmes.

She is currently one of the top coaches in Flanders and coaches artists, top athletes, entrepreneurs and leaders. Inge is an inspirational and motivating speaker and personal coach. She is the author of the book “Je wordt wat je denkt” (You become what you think) and has also set up her own coaching academy.

Inge Rock also plays a key role in Oral B’s “There’s more in you” programme.

You are always singing and everyone around you says that you have a great voice but does the thought of getting up on stage bring you out in a cold sweat? Do you want to develop further in terms of work but lack the self-confidence to take on bigger projects? This is the first time Ji Lee is in Belgium and a unique opportunity to get an insight in Google’s creative processes.

About his master lecture Ji Lee says

Yes, my talk is focused on how personal and professional can complement each other and when it happens, it produces AWESOME. I also will talk about how Google as company encourages its employees to work 20% of their time to come up with their OWN ideas of innovation. And also how Google create free and useful tools for people to make their projects come alive.
