The new Honda PCX was created for riders who desire the compact, economical advantages of a 125cc scooter and the modern, fashionable good looks more often associated with larger-displacement machines. The Honda PCX is the first Honda scooter which is equipped with Honda’s new CV-Matic and the only scooter on the market equipped with the start-stop function.

#BGGD33: What’s in the goodie bag?

Posted in Girl Geek Dinners,Sponsor love by Clo Willaerts on the July 12th, 2010

Time to move, ladies! For the fashion and photography edition I got two things you can take home:Activia Houp

  • Fresh samples of the new Activia Drink
  • Activia Houp hula hoops

I trust you all know what Activia Drink is but these Hula hoops might need some explanation. From the wikipedia entry on Hula Hoop:

The record for simultaneous hula hooping (minimum time: 2 minutes) is for 2,290 participants at Chung Cheng Stadium in Kaohsiung, Taiwan on 28 October 2000.

The idea is to break that record on Saturday 14 August 2010 at the beach of Oostende. For this we need at least 2300 people hooping at the same time for at least two minutes.

Want to know more? Here’s an introduction from no less than Evy Gruyaert and Julie Taton :

See you on the 14th of August, in Oostende. Let’s break that world record!

Win a ticket to Top Gear Live in Amsterdam on January 24th

Posted in Contest,Sponsor love by Clo Willaerts on the January 15th, 2010

Dunlop is proud sponsor of the Amsterdam edition of Top Gear Live – a thundering show filled with the roar and smoke of the world’s fastest cars and jaw-dropping stunts under the watchful eye of three grown men that talk of little else besides cars, performance, speed and someone’s supposedly whitened teeth. With this travelling show, “the boys”, give every car fan the opportunity to spend an evening on what really matters: cars.

Dunlop offers two car-loving Geek Girls the opportunity to experience the spectacle up close and personal! We’re giving away two tickets to the last European edition of the show on Sunday January 24th in Amsterdam.

Dunlop
As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high and ultra-high performance tires, Dunlop’s name is inextricably linked to motorsport. The technologies that the company develops for use on the world’s leading circuits are also found in the tires it makes for everyday motoring. It is no surprise then that many of the world’s leading vehicle manufacturers, including Alfa Romeo, AMG, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Jaguar, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, fit Dunlop as standard.

Also itching to be in Amsterdam on the 24th?

Here’s what you need to do:

1) Write a blog post before January 21st. Make sure it contains the correct answers to these three questions:

  1. Of which international race, that takes place from 14 – 16 January, is Dunlop title sponsor?
  2. Which Dunlop ultra high performance tire contains Kevlar® in the apex of the tire?
  3. Which Dunlop winter tire was named ‘Testsieger’ in the 2009 winter tire test conducted by German automotive magazine AutoZeiting?

Also make sure to convince the Dunlop people in a few sentences why you ABSOLUTELY have to be there on the 24th!

2) Put a link to this post (http://www.brusselsgirlgeekdinner.be/?p=539) in your blog post so we can see it pop up in the TrackBacks of this story.

Good Luck!

BGGD #21 Shut up and dance!

Posted in Girl Geek Dinners,Sponsor love by Clo Willaerts on the December 1st, 2009

Shut up and danceAll dressed up and nowhere to go? No worries: all the girl geeks who put their name on the wiki guest list for Brussels Girl Geek Dinner #21 (the Fashion edition) get in for free at the first edition of Shut Up And Dance, Friday 11 December 2009 at the Tijuana in Ghent.

Shut Up And Dance is a new party concept, based in Ghent, and aims to bring back the feeling of the late eighties and early nineties: house and new beat were kinda undergroundpopular, and techno was breaking through. It was a Beatles revolution with only beats. Punk minus the slogans, and far better looking. A new form of instrumental protest. M’as-tu vu without the empty talking. Shut up. And dance.

Good news! Brussels Girl Geek Dinner has 20 free tickets for the national Avant Première of OceanWorld 3D on Mon 30 November 19:45 at Kinepolis, Liège. Want to join us? Put your name (and those of the friends you bring with you) on the wiki page.

Digital 3D film production is in full flight: 2009 is therefore the ideal year to launch a Film Festival entirely dedicated to 3D. From Bollywood to Hollywood, from Shanghai to Brussels and Liège, the 3D planet is bubbling with excitement: three 3D films were distributed in 2008, some fifteen in 2009 and to date we have counted more than 150 3D films in production (listed films).

The 3D Stereo MEDIA 2009 Film Festival offers the general public and 3D image professionals:

  • A selection of the best 3D films from the digital 3D era*. This selection is composed of 15 mid- and feature-length films.
  • A short film competition and a feature film competition*. Three films were selected in each category by the organisers and will be presented to the jury.

The 3D Film festival will be held both by Kinepolis Antwerp, Brussels & Liege. Kinepolis will play a selection of 3D movies every night from the 1st December till the 3rd.

BGGD #19 topic: How to grow design by using 3D technology

Posted in Girl Geek Dinners,Sponsor love by Clo Willaerts on the November 2nd, 2009

The 19th edition of Brussels Girl Geek Dinner takes place in Leuven on Wed 18 November 2009 18:00. Speakers are Ward Callens, Director, .MGX Division at Materialise  & Dominique D’Heedene (@designarenas) of DesignArenas, an e-tailer specializing in bringing hotel luxury and lifestyle at home.

The topic of this edition is 3D technology. From .MGX by Materialise (make sure to check out the .MGX Facebook page)

19maart09031.jpg.MGX works with innovative 3D printing techniques and some of the top designers, architects and artists from around the world to produce architectural models, art pieces and other custom projects, as well as a range of exceptional lighting objects, furniture, interior goods and accessories – all with a degree of detail, complexity and speed that cannot be offered by other production techniques.

Through the specific technologies of stereolithography and selective laser sintering, objects are brought to life primarily as single pieces, without joints or seams, through the principle of ‘additive fabrication’, whereby material is transformed from one state to another (liquid to solid or welding of material particles by laser beam). In most cases, .MGX creations would be impossible to produce using other manufacturing methods.

Recent .MGX collaborations have included projects with artists such as Frank Stella and Peter Jansen, as well as Asymptote, Future Systems, SOM, Foster & Partners, UN Studio and other leading architectural and design firms. The .MGX line of design products is currently exported to over 20 countries worldwide; has received many awards, including two Red Dot Design Awards; is featured in numerous international museums, including the MoMA in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris; and regularly appears in top design and decor publications such as: Icon, Surface Magazine, Elle Decor and Vogue Living.
