Keep the date free: #BGGD58 on 27 May in Antwerp: the future of digital publishing

Posted in Girl Geek Dinners,Sponsor love by Clo Willaerts on the April 23rd, 2013

We’re still ironing out the details, but the 58th edition of the Brussels Girl Geek Dinners will coincide with one of the sessions of Book Labs 2013.

About Book Labs 2013:

11

Discover the digital world of the book at BOOK LABS 2013 and win 10.000 euro to develop your project. How can digital agencies, developers and graphic designers grow with the major developments in the digital book industry? More and more people are reading books on an e-reader or tablet. Reading a book can therefore go further than just reading letters and turning pages. The concept of ‘reading a book’ can get a completely different and extended meaning in the future. It’s up to you to determine that new meaning. How can digital developers and designers make a powerful contribution to the changing reading experience of the audience? What are the future perspectives and what opportunities are there for digital peeps?

iDROPS (BE), Boek.be (BE) and Uitgeverij van de Toekomst (BE) organize three innovative books labs in Flanders and the Netherlands. In BOOK LABS 2013 we throw a light on the future of e-books and find *new ways to publish interactive books.

winkelhaak

  1. First session – Creative LAB in Designcenter De Winkelhaak, Antwerp, May 26th , 27th & 28th 2013
  2. Second session: Creative LAB in Amsterdam, June 30th, July 1st & 2st 2013

So. What’s in the goodie bag?

#BGGD48 Quick post about Delta Lloyd Life, @AnnMetPensioen @PensionDeClaire and two iPhones

Posted in Sponsor love by Clo Willaerts on the December 14th, 2011

Tonight’s 48th edition of Brussels Girl Geek Dinners is made possible by Delta Lloyd Life.

As a pension insurer Delta Lloyd Life takes its social responsibility by participating in the debate with the various Belgian pension players. The pension debate shouldn’t just only be conducted in De Wetstraat. An annual pension survey, the Independent Chair of Pension Policy at the K.U. Leuven, the Pension Ambassador Award and the current campaign “Vrouwen Met Pensioen” are just some of its initiatives that seek to put the pension dialogue on the agenda. Take a look at
www.vrouwenmetpensioen.be / www.lapensiondesfemmes.be..

Two female bloggers, Ann Detelder (@AnnMetPensioen) and Claire Cervollo (@PensionDeClaire), were asked to document their month on the minimum pension fee. How did they cope?

And most importantly: which one of the girl geeks win the two iPhones tonight?

#BGGD46 Pink Ribbon photo shoot

Posted in Activism,Girl Geek Dinners,Sponsor love by Clo Willaerts on the September 20th, 2011

To support breast cancer awareness (and the 5th edition of Pink Ribbon Magazine) a few dozen of my Sanoma Media colleagues have volunteered to pose nude with the magazine. Among them virtually every magazine editor and a couple of men, too.

I’ve used mine as a profile picture on Facebook and Twitter to spread the message.

During #BGGD46, girl geeks can line up for the same photo shoot (if they want too, of course). It’s an all-female professional photo crew and they’re very pleasant to work with. By the way, do you recognise the girl geek in this gallery?

#BGGD45 Surprise for the ladies: 3D printed jewelry thx @imaterialise

Posted in Contest,Girl Geek Dinners,Sponsor love by Clo Willaerts on the September 14th, 2011

i.materialise is a creation and 3Dprinting service that enables people with a creative mind to create unique, customised and beautiful products. The girl geeks visited them in their early days, back in november 2009. Many of the girl geeks envisioned using the technology to create unique jewelry pieces.

Well, the 3D printed jewels have arrived. More and more designers worldwide are using 3Dprinting to create wonderful pieces of art. We would like to present a couple of those on the next Girl Geeks night. We look forward to your feedback. Enjoy girls!

Tonight, at the reception desk, there are 25 freshly printed 3D jewels – just for the ladies. Please pick one as you arrive and let us all know on Twitter, Facebook, your blog etc what you think of it!

#BGGD45 on 14 Sep: get ready for a Geek Battle!

Posted in Girl Geek Dinners,Sponsor love,Where and when by Clo Willaerts on the September 11th, 2011

During the IFA fair (the world’s largest and most important trade fair for consumer electronics and household appliances) Sony threw their answer on the tablet pile: the Sony Tablet. And they want to have your thoughts on the newborn during Brussels Girl Geek Dinner #45. No boring you to death with 500 slides, but an entertaining evening. Well, let’s be honest, it’s the Sony people who will be entertained by you!

You’ll be fighting a geek battle: you and your buddy will fight a number of cross-category challenges against the other teams. Pop quiz, videogaming, the occasional app to download and use, uploading a picture…

Two top geeks will win a Sony Tablet at the end of the evening. And there’s an additional challenge for the more
creative geek who’s not in a combative mood. A part from the prizes, who has never wanted to beat another geek at their own game?

Studio Brussel’s Steven Lemmens (@stvn) will act as MC, jury and shoulder to cry on if you’re not happy with the results of the evening.

Course of the evening

  • 18.30 welcome and explanation of the rules of the game
  • 19.00 walking buffet – find your buddy – check out the list of challenges
  • 19.45 battle!
  • +/- 22.00 finals and award presentation

Venue
The Event Lounge
Gen. Wahislaan 16F Av. Gén. Wahis
1030 Brussels

The Event Lounge hosts the Sony open days at the same time, so you’ll have a chance to see the latest products that’ll hit the AV-market in the coming months.

#BGGD42 Sweepstake: LaCie CurrenKey USB Flash Drives

Posted in Sponsor love by Clo Willaerts on the June 29th, 2011

In the early days of Brussels Girl Geek Dinners, sweepstakes were invariably organised as a TV show telephone game (often dubbed belspeldelspel by the girl geeks). Today, obviously, it would be a Twitter sweepstake. What can girl geeks win at tonight’s BGGD42 in Winkelhaak, Antwerp?

One of these three LaCie CurrenKey USB Flash Drives, one with a gold(16GB), one with a silver (8GB), and one with a bronze (4GB) finish.

#BGGD42 Cocktail workshop by Liefmans

Posted in Girl Geek Dinners,Sponsor love by Clo Willaerts on the June 19th, 2011

Brussels Girl Geek Dinners are not only about listening to interesting (tech) speakers and meeting the other girl geeks in an informal environment, but also about trying out new stuff. Like making beer cocktails.

Liefmans on the rocks offers you a whole new beer experience, a fruity drink served over ice for the ultimate summer refreshment. With notes of strawberry, raspberry, wild cherry, blueberry and elderberry this combination creates a stylish, fruity, sparkling and elegant experience. With the cocktails Liefmans even goes the extra mile in the world of beer experiences.
